The tranquilizer is a hunting accessory in Carnivores, Carnivores 2, Carnivores Ice Age, Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter, Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter HD, and Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter Reborn, which sedates the shot animal with a quick-acting sedative rather than killing it. This triggers a sleeping animation after the death animation, and prevents the animal from being collected as a trophy. It is very useful for a full trophy room, since otherwise the last animal in the trophy room is replaced by the last downed pointable animal. Use of tranquilizer boosts the amount of points earned on that hunt by 25%, possibly due to the fact the the Dropship doesn't have to collect and taxidermy the animal's body.
In Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter HD and Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter Reborn, use of tranquilizer does not award any extra points, but gives the dinosaurs different death animations.

Tranquilizing a dinosaur is an alternative to killing it. This will drop the dinosaur where it stands with a quick-acting drug. Use of the tranquilizer adds 25% to your total points acquired during that hunt.

Tranquilizing a dinosaur for the first time grants the player the Animal Activist achievement in Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter.
Usually, tranquilizing a dinosaur causes it to perform a breathing animation after the "death" animation. The only animals in the Carnivores series with no breathing animations are Dimorphodon, Pteranodon, Archaeopteryx, and Tyrannosaurus.
Despite the fact that guns are firing tranquilizer darts, all weapons keep their regular firing sounds.
Although the in-game description states that the darts release a quick-acting drug, you need to fully deplete the animal's health in order to sedate it, and if you don't, the animal can roam conscious forever. The description is actually just ported over from the original Carnivores unchanged, which had mortal spots meaning a dinosaur could be downed instantly.
